Residents

Komuna Warszawa Theater supports the creative explorations of young female and male performing artists. Starting in 2019, we are running an innovative interdisciplinary residency program. Each year we invite a different curator who proposes the season’s leading theme. So far, the residency curators have been Weronika Szczawińska (2019), the curatorial team of Tim Etchells, Marta Keil, Grzegorz Reske (2020), Markus Öhrn (2021), Anna Smolar (2022) and Rabih Mroué (2024).

Residential programs

The role of the curator(s) is to mentor the participants of the residencies and master classes, and to prepare their own master performance. Past programs have produced performances linked by a theme, but described in different artistic ways and from different generational perspectives.

The purpose of the program is not only to enable independent and free creative work, but above all to present its results and help integrate it into the wider circulation of art.

The residency program consists of several-week summer master classes – for artists (up to 30 years old) selected in an open call. The master classes, conducted under the supervision of a curator, will enable the creation of works and their public presentation. Some of the projects have been developed into a full-format performance.
In addition, together with the season’s curator(s), selected artists (up to 40 years old) are invited to realize a performance work or a performance.
The program is completed with a performance prepared by the season’s curator and by Komuna Warszawa.
